First snow of the season. I don't think it will last so I took some quick pictures. Chet and Biscuit, our resident retired greyhounds, went for a walk and later for a run in the paddock. The snow didn't slow them down.

Some details on the house:
Exterior doors and windows are European types of inward opening casements made in Seattle by H-H Windows and Doors. Guess where Hannes came from. All hardware and the Sikkens finish are from Germany.

Green Roof

The house has long eves and low pitch (3:12)on the roof.  Most green roof projects are of a "potted plant" type of construction and on flat sections.  In this case we have engineered soil of equal portions of compost, loam and pumice, native seed is directly applied and grown in place.

Here the tall crreping red fescue grass is coming in.  It never got above about 4" (100 mm) in height. This was fortunate as I was getting offers for goats.

Looks like we will need to overcast some extra seed and lightly fertilze.

Here is another view of LED lighting in the corner kitchen area. We have a double kitchen and a separate prep area. The stoves are GE induction as they are presently the most efficient. I have done nothing on the stove except boil water which it does very faster than gas stoves. We will see how we get on with pots and pans that have ferrous content. We can use 400 series stainless cookware.

We imported via Ebay old German roof tile and used them in the kitchen to cover the work areas and the beer stube (beverage area). Here is the view from the second floor balcony that leads to the guest suite.
